Our schedule for the trip to Iceland:
Tuesday, August 4: Liz and her husband will pick me up and head to the airport for a 16:15 flight to Iceland.
Wednesday, August 5: Liz and I land in Iceland at 6:30 and rent a car. Then it's time to roam around finding a few earthcaches and a few puzzle caches that I have solved. We'll probably spend the rest of the day adjusting to the 7 hour time change - naps as needed along the way. The night will be spent in Reykjavik.
Thursday, August 6: We go on a tour that will take us down into a dormant volcano. Next we head up to the northern coast and spend the night Akureyri.
Friday, August 7: Fly to Grímsey Island in the morning and walk across the Artic Circle which is moving north at the rate of a few inches each year. In the afternoon we head to some glorious waterfalls and meander to the east coast of Iceland. We spend the night in a pod near Egilsstaðir.
Saturday, August 8: Make our way back to Reykjavik, stop at more waterfalls, visit Iceland's answer to Ireland's Giants' Causeway, and check out some icebergs. We'll be back in Reykjavik to spend the night.
Sunday, August 9: Meet the GSA group at the airport after dropping off the rental car. Head with the group to the Blue Lagoon, and head to Hafnarfjörður for the night where we will have a Viking feat at the Viking Village.
Monday, August 10: Midatlantic ridge, Geysir hot spring, and Gullfoss waterfall. See a horse show and visit a greenhouse.
Tuesday, August 11: Hekla volcano, Þjórsárdalur valley, Gjáin oasis, Landmannalauger nature reserve, and Eldgjá "Fire gorge."
Wednesday, August 12: Skaftafell National Park, Svartivoss waterfall and Jökulsárlón for a boat tour amidst the icebergs.
Thursday, August 13: Dyrhólaey cliff, Sólheimajökull glacier walk, and Skógar waterfall.
Friday, August 14: Eyjafjallajökull volcano which last erupted in 2010, boat tour around Westman Islands, hike to Mt. Eldfell. Stay overnight in Westman Islands.
Saturday, August 15: Back to the mainland, Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Þórsmörk valley and head to Reykjavik for farewell dinner.
Sunday, August 16: on our own until noon, so I submitted a geocache event at a special location. Afternoon flight back home where we arrive about 45 minutes after we leave. Is that what time warp is all about?
